We're starting a Micro Chicken-Hatchery in 2026!
Fools Farm L.C. started raising a flock of +/- 50 dual-purpose laying hens of Bielefelder Chickens in 2025 and we plan to start a micro chicken-hatchery in 2026, anticipating to hatch up to 90 day-old chicks per week between May and August. Bielefelders are "autosexing," meaning anyone can distinguish between males and females at birth by the color of their feathers. Use the inquiry form below to pre-order now!
Beilefelder chickens are an excellent bird all around and recommended for beginners because of how reliable, resilient, and docile they are!
Benefits of the breed:
- Productive egg layers: each hen lays 230-280 eggs per year!
- Large eggs with colors ranging from creamy with pale pink undertones to chocolate brown...and sometimes they are speckled!
- Large dual-purpose breed, can be raised for eggs or meat. Females (hens) are 8-10 lbs.
and males (roosters) are 10 -12 lbs. Harvest males for meat at 16 weeks. - Autosexing of day-old chicks: When chicks hatch, the females have a dark stripe down their backs that resembles a chipmunk’s. Males are lighter and have white specks on their heads. As adults, hens are brown with gray barring and roosters have beautiful Crele pattern.
- Easygoing and resilient temperament!
* Hardiness in different climates, well adapted to hot and cold weather.
* Very docile, even roosters known to be friendly -- great for families with small children!
* Active foragers -- eggs will be highly nutritious because they eat lots of seeds, bugs, and greens.
* Aware of predators -- they know to hide from hawks.
* Not broody but often good mothers.
* Not a loud chicken -- won't disturb your neighbors!
